Nike viral named as most successful on YouTube
A viral ad for Nike has been named the most watched ever for a brand, clocking up more than 22 million views.
‘Ronaldinho: Touch of Gold’ features the master at work, as seen through this "homemade" viral. Except the shaky camera work has been produced by global sports giant Nike.
It topped the poll of brand related virals on YouTube as compiled by Internet Retailing.
An ad for Pepsi featuring music stars Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink came second, with over 14 million views.
The development of the digital sphere has provided a whole new platform where brands can engage with consumers. More than 80 million YouTube videos are watched every day.
“You could argue that YouTube is the single most influential form of media available today,” says Internet Retailing.
“It makes the corporate world's mostly blinkered attitude to its value and sometimes its potential threat to a company's reputation all the more surprising.”
Some soaraway success viral stories have been the same ads as screened on TV, but other work that has caught the imagination of the masses has been ads made by regular members of the public.
The third most popular viral video for a brand in the poll is a case in point. McDonalds ‘Fast Food Freestyle’ is a user generated piece of work featuring some young men rapping about the restaurant chain.
Additionally, the Diet Coke and Mentos Human Experiment, in at fourth place, has also been made by a member of the public.
Cannes Grand Prix winner, the critically acclaimed ‘Evolution’ work for Unilever’s Dove brand came in at fifth place with almost 7 million views.
