The number of unemployed people has decreased again
Recent figures released by The Office for National Statistics show a drop in the rate of unemployment in the UK. The unemployment rate for the three months up to March this year was 5.2 per cent, down 0.3 over the year to date. The number of unemployed workers was 83,000 lower than at this time last year, at 1.61million.
The annual rate of growth in average earnings (excluding bonuses) was 3.8 per cent in March 2008.
The total number of job vacancies for the three months was 686,800 for the three months to April 2008, up 6,700 over the previous quarter and up 44,600 on the year.
