Retail market shown to be buoyant by recent survey

In recent news, the retail market was shown to be buoyant by a recent report.








The survey, conducted by JobCentre Plus, showed that one in six retailers were actively hiring. The report also revealed that small and medium-sized organisations were the most active recruiters, with 17 per cent of jobs with the retail sector being filled successfully.








The research also found that the proportion of overall vacancies being advertised on the internet had risen by 4 per cent between 2004 to and 2006.








This trend coincides with sales volumes in the three months to July increasing by 1.1 per cent compared with the previous three-month period, which follows a 1.4 per cent growth in the three months to June.








Within these statistics, growth in sales volumes at non-food stores was 2.1 per cent and volumes at non-specialised stores (including department stores) grew by five per cent.








Sales volume for household goods stores, such as those stocking furniture, electrical appliances and DIY products, were shown to have increased by 4.9 per cent - the highest rate for this area since May 2001.








In related news, retailchoice.com have indicated that 48 per cent of employees believe they have good opportunities for progression within the retail sector, while fewer than ten per cent said that they have no opportunity for advancement.
